Media Sponsored Polls getting Harder to Believe

Whenever online poll results don't make the mainstream media happy, they manage to find (or conduct) other polls that do — or they'll lie about them.

(October 20, 2015) The Washington Post headline reads: Clinton, judged winner of debate, holds big national lead over Sanders

The article cites a new Washington Post-ABC poll that was conducted from Oct. 15 to 18 among a random national sample of 1,001 adults, including land-line and cellphone respondents. They say: "The error margin is plus or minus six points among the sample of 352 Democratic-leaning registered voters." The last question on the poll shows 39% identify as Independent, 30% Democrat, 24% Republican.

Below are highlights from the Washington Post article citing the Washington Post-ABC poll of 352 Democratic-leaning registered voters:

  • Clinton leads the Democratic race with the support of registered Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents by 54-23 percent. (The poll shows 56-22)
  • Nearly two-thirds of Democrats predict that Clinton will be their party’s nominee (The poll shows 65% Clinton, 14% Biden, 11% Sanders)
  • More than seven in 10 Democrats say that Clinton has the best chance of the party’s candidates to win the general election in November 2016 (The poll shows 73% Clinton, 21% Sanders)
  • Clinton leads Sanders on who is “closer to you” on the issues by 53-36 percent.
  • Clinton leads Sanders on who “understands the problems of people like you” by 51-37 percent.
  • Clinton leads Sanders on who "more honest and trustworthy" by 42-41 percent.(Whites rate Sanders as more honest and trustworthy, while non-whites say Clinton is more honest.)

Below is from the sample of all 1,001 adults they surveyed:

The Washington Post article says "Clinton’s positions on two issues [Keystone and TPP] are out of step with the general public".

  • 50 percent of Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents support the Keystone pipeline. (The poll shows 55% support, 34% favor, 11% no opinion)
  • 50 percent Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents support Obama’s TPP trade deal. (The poll shows 44% favor, 32% oppose, 25% no opinion)

Asked "From what you've heard, read about or seen regarding the last debate, who won?" (45% Clinton, 19% Sanders)

Asked: "Who will win the general election in 2016?" (Clinton 37%, 7% Sanders)

As an aside

The Center for Public Integrity asked Joe Trippi: "What do you think would happen if Bernie Sanders beats Hillary Clinton in Iowa?"

Joe Trippi replied: "The entire Democratic establishment would come out of the woodwork to stop Bernie Sanders from being the nominee. The establishment fervently believes that a socialist cannot be president of the United States."

Just as with the establishment Democrats, the same can be said about the Washington Post, CBS and the Republicans. They wouldn't want to see a "democratic socialist" win the presidency either.

  1. The corporate media and establishment politicians are trying to convince the American people that we like [insert a name for a "moderate" Democrat or "moderate" Republican here] and that we would be much better off with them, the TPP trade deal and the Keystone pipeline. They are always forcing us to vote for the better of two evils.

It's like parents forcing their children to eat peas when their kids hate the taste of peas. But they tell their kids that peas are good for them and that all the other kids at school eat peas because they love peas.

We don't want any damn peas and we don't want any more "moderate" politicians either.

  2. Washington Post: The presidential election is like a Shakespearean drama. Joe Biden is like Hamlet, because he sees himself as is the rightful king/heir to President Obama’s legacy — with Hillary Clinton (or Claudius) trying to take that away.

The vice president is in the twilight of his career, mulling whether the third time might be the charm for achieving his life-long presidential dream.

  4. Bernie Sanders Dominates With Small Donors, While the GOP Rakes in the Dark Money:

"After a surprisingly strong third quarter, Sanders has almost as much cash on hand as Hillary Clinton."

  5. This used to be an issue we laughed about with banana republics returning 99.8% electoral votes in favour of some braided and bemedalled Generalissimo. The crapification and corruption of statistics represented the difference between "them" and "us". Now everything from the CPI and unemployment rates across to corporate credit ratings is an official joke. Without an honest compass you've got no idea which way you're heading except into trouble.
