When you get a lot of people together (like at those European soccer matches), there’s always a potential for violence to break out. MoveOn’s intention was to deliberately shut down Trump’s rally, not just protest it. It’s like when colleges prevent certain people from speaking on their campuses ... it’s censorship ... it’s like book burning. If Trump is a psychopath, I’d rather he speak and expose himself rather than going under the radar. I wouldn’t want to see the KKK shut down one of Hillary Clinton’s rallies, even though I think she panders for the Black vote just to get herself elected. It’s bad enough the media picks and chooses who they want to give the most exposure to. If the media didn’t give Trump free 100% coverage 24/7 maybe the protest wouldn't have been necessary.
Bud Meyershttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02065020063363023395noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7895164153505105997.post-16239358107212107302016-03-11T20:41:28.287-08:002016-03-11T20:41:28.287-08:00Democrats need to seriously and pragmatically asse...Democrats need to seriously and pragmatically assess their strategy for defeating Trump. Sanders captured the lion’s share of the trade skeptics in the Democratic contest, as Donald Trump did in the Republican one. Not just because they were misled by the polling, many in the media expressed surprise at the level of anger in both parties directed at the nation’s free trade policies of the past three decades. Sanders’s greater ability to mobilize white working class votes in the Rust Belt states makes him a stronger candidate to win those states against Trump, who has already demonstrated an ability to bring more working class whites to the polls than any Republican in decades. The same pragmatism that has led many African Americans to support Clinton over Sanders would lead them to support Sanders over Trump. That’s why I now think Sanders would be the stronger Democrat in November.

http://prospect.org/article/why-bernie-may-have-better-shot-winning-november-hillary
Bud Meyershttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02065020063363023395noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7895164153505105997.post-48014410185952278872016-03-11T18:26:01.509-08:002016-03-11T18:26:01.509-08:00Despite all the crap that Trump spews, he still ha...Despite all the crap that Trump spews, he still has a right to speak at his rallies. The protesters could have peacefully protested outside, but they shut down the rally. I’m for free speech (even Trump’s); just like I thought it was wrong for BlackLivesMatter to shut down Bernie Sanders’s rally in Seattle. Protesting is one thing, but denying others their right to assemble and free speech is un-American.Bud Meyershttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02065020063363023395noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7895164153505105997.post-62705177540255373012016-03-11T17:49:58.716-08:002016-03-11T17:49:58.716-08:00Reported on CNN: No arrests or injuries reported. ...Reported on CNN: No arrests or injuries reported. One estimate: 10,000 protesters, who are being blamed for disrupting the peaceful assembly of the rally -- because many had infiltrated inside the rally, while many more were also protesting outside the rally. Free speech advocates are crying foul. It's reported that the advocacy group MoveOn.Org was instrumental and taking credit for organizing the protest. One pundit reported that the protestors were mostly Hispanics, and that Chicago has a large Hispanic community. Trumka, AFL-CIO President of the largest organization of labor unions in the country, said: "If left unattended, the anger and the frustration Trump has tapped into will carry the day. But when you give working-class people the facts, I think he falls apart. He’s a house of cards."

He says Trump’s history of anti-worker and anti-union policies will eventually evolve into uniting labor voters behind a Democratic candidate. Trump wants to cut workers’ wages and that his immigration and unionization policies would leave them worse off than they are today. Trumka said unions plans to work directly with activist groups, like the growing movement for a $15 minimum wage.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/powerpost/wp/2016/03/10/this-is-labors-plan-to-try-and-derail-donald-trump/

* All the more reason to vote for Bernie Sanders. "I was wrong about Donald Trump"...UPDATE:

"I was wrong about Donald Trump" (by Camille Paglia at Salon)

Trump’s fearless candor and brash energy feel like a great gust of fresh air, sweeping the tedious clichés and constant guilt-tripping of political correctness out to sea. Unlike Hillary Clinton, whose every word and policy statement on the campaign trail are spoon-fed to her by a giant paid staff and army of shadowy advisors, Trump is his own man, with a steely “damn the torpedoes” attitude. He has a swaggering retro machismo that will give hives to the Steinem cabal. He lives large, with the urban flash and bling of a Frank Sinatra. But Trump is a workaholic who doesn’t drink and who has an interesting penchant for sophisticated, strong-willed European women.

As for a debasement of the presidency by Trump’s slanging matches about penis size, that sorry process was initiated by a Democrat, Bill Clinton, who chatted about his underwear on TV, let Hollywood pals jump up and down on the bed in the Lincoln Bedroom, and played lewd cigar games with an intern in the White House offices.

From my perspective as a fervent supporter of the ruggedly honest and principled Bernie Sanders, Trump with his pragmatic real-life record is a far more palatable national figure than Ted Cruz, whose unctuous, vainglorious professions of Christian piety don’t pass the smell test. Trump is a blunt, no-crap mensch, while Cruz is a ham actor, doling out fake compassion like chopped liver. Cruz’s lugubrious, weirdly womanish face, with its prim, tight smile and mawkishly appealing puppy-dog eyebrows, is like a waxen mask, always on the verge of melting. This guy doesn’t know who the hell he is—and the White House is no place for him and us to find out.

http://www.salon.com/2016/03/10/i_was_wrong_about_donald_trump_camille_paglia_on_the_gop_front_runners_refreshing_candor_and_his_impetuousness_too/

Bud Meyershttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02065020063363023395noreply@blogger.com
