Save Social Security from the Robber Barons

Dear @BarackObama: The New Deal needs to be #OffTheTable from the Super Congress. SIGN if you agree: http://bit.ly/offthetble

News reports yesterday indicated that President Obama is taking Social Security #OffTheTable from the Super Congress in his deficit speech next week. The White House spokespeople were candid about the reason: Overwhelming pressure from ordinary Americans fighting to protect Social Security.

President Obama is listening on Social Security – now we need to make sure he’s also listening on Medicare and Medicaid.

Now more than ever we need the president to hear us: cutting Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid is #OffTheTable – Period. The American people won’t stand for it. Watch the video explaining why Social Security is under attack.

The moment those news reports went out, the right-wing noise machine cranked up their talk radio and TV assault against Social Security, trying to get the president to put Social Security cuts back on the table. The far-right doesn’t just want Social Security on the chopping block – they’re also targeting the sacred promises of Medicare, Medicaid and the whole New Deal.

The simple truth is this: Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid are the foundations of our economic security. That’s why we’re counting on President Obama to spare them from cuts as the Super Congress starts to debate the federal deficit. All he has to do is tell the truth: Social Security does not contribute a penny to the deficit, and its benefits should not be cut, including the Social Security COLA that keeps our benefits up to date with inflation.

As for Medicare? That’s simply a sacred trust with our parents and grandparents, while Medicaid is utterly crucial for seniors, women, children and people with disabilities.

It’s time to take Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid #OffTheTable from the Super Congress – and that’s the other 98% of America needs President Obama to start standing strong, and strengthening Social Security – not cutting it.

For the super rich, nothing costs too much, nothing is out of reach. But let's not let them have our Social Security, too!
